Hair Growth with Natural Herbal Products
The herbals are full of suggestions for increasing hair growth, but remember that only some forms of baldness are reversible. I met a young man recently who had reversed the process with scalp exercises, daily rests with his feet higher than his head, change of food habits to include huge amounts of vitamins (more on that later), and a shift from ordinary food to insecticide-free food. After being totally bald, in 3 months there was fuzz on his head and at the end of 8 months he had long hair in many areas of the head, and was still growing new baby soft hair in others.
Peter Flesch (in Physiology and Biochemistry of the Skin) mentions that many doctors have recorded good results from the use of pantothenic acid, and describes a German experiment on a hypothyroid child whose 'scant hair could not be restored by thyroid medication, even though other symptoms of hypothyroidism were alleviated. Administration of pantothenic acid brought about a dense growth of scalp hair.'
Quince is used by the Arabs to increase the growth of the manes and tails of their beautiful horses.
Other useful herbs mentioned in old herbals and family recipe books are mallow roots, maidenhair fern spores, nettles, parsley seed, jaborandi, rosemary, boxwood shavings, nutmeg, willow leaves, cloves, artichokes.
The mallows may be boiled in wine and used as a massage. Maidenhair spores are boiled in wine in strong decoction; add white wine and massage through the hair. The parsley seeds are crushed and applied in powder form to the scalp once a month. Allow to remain overnight and brush out thoroughly.
The nettle infusion, or pure plant juice, can be combed through the hair, using an opposite stroke to natural direction of hair growth. Use daily if you can. Jaborandi is used after infusion for 24 hours and combed through the hair.
